The woodcock is a migratory bird that travels across much of the United States. These birds fly extremely fast and quickly shift their direction of flight, making them a challenging target for even the most experienced shooters. Within the United States hunters can find the American Woodcock, however there are multiple other species including: Eurasian Woodcock (Eurasian), Amami Woodcock (Japan), Bukidnon Woodcock (Philippines), Dusky Woodcock (Indonesia), Sulawesi Woodcock (Indonesia), and Moluccan Woodcock (Indonesia).
The woodcock’s eyes are located on the sides of their head, allowing them to see three-hundred and sixty degrees around them. Due to their speed we recommend using a shotgun that allows for a very fast second shot, either a semi-automatic, over-and-under, or side-by-side twelve gauge with a modified choke.
