The Mountain Lion is also commonly known as Cougar, Puma, Panther, and Mountain Cat.  One of the stealthiest predators in the United States this animal is common throughout the West and can be found in almost every US state.  Additionally, this cat can be found throughoutparts of Canada and Mexico.

The Mountain Lion is the fourth-largest cat with adult males weighing in at over two-hundred pounds.  This species of larger cat has an extremely muscular front body and neck, which it uses to catch and harvest prey.  In addition to is powerful jaws and front body, the Mountain Lion also has five extremely sharp retractable claws on each of its front paws (and four on the back paws).

Being a stealthy stalk-and-ambush predator, the Mountain Lion is a predator that nears the top of the United States food chain.  The Mountain Loin will feed on everything from insects and small rodents up to sheep, deer, elk, and even moose and cattle.  Although a great hunter the Mountain Lion may not be the apex predator in regions wielding populations of wolfs and bears.
