American Bison

Once having populations in the millions, the American Bison was hunted to almost extinction in the nineteenth century.  It was estimated that the population dwindled as low as only five hundred in numbers. Through aggressive game and habitat management the American Bison can now be found as a common species grazing on the grassy plains of The United States.  These animals can be found in Alaska, Canada, and in several states throughout the US.

These giants can weigh in at over fifteen hundred pounds and are typically less aggressive then the African Water Buffalo.  Although less aggressive, it is still very important to consider this game to be a dangerous animal as their charges can be extremely fast and very damaging.  Plan a hunt recommends that you utilize a rifle that is .338 or larger.  Historically hunters typically hunted this game with a single shot (.45-70) models, however if you choose to take this more challenging approach be prepared with a hunting partner who is equipped with a repeating rifle.
